Stand Up, Stand Tall & Stand United

Telangana Movement

During my tenure as a parliamentarian, I actively participated in the Telangana movement. I encountered intense opposition from my peers, including the use of ‘pepper spray’. But that did not stop me from emerging as a symbol of the Telangana movement.

The residents of my constituency recognize my unwavering support for them, even during challenging times. When the Telangana Janula Samme movement lasted for 42 days (about 1 and a half months), it was the only time in our constituency that candidates from TRS/BRS/BJP were absent, with me being the sole representative. I stood by the people, offering my assistance. My dedication to the cause of Telangana is unquestionable. In fact, it would be an overstatement to say that I have become an icon of the Telangana movement within Congress.

It’s undeniable that the Telangana Liberation Front (TRS) fought for Telangana’s independence. However, it was the Congress that managed to pass the bill in Parliament. The Congress is akin to Ram, who constructed the ‘Varadhi’ bridge in Lanka, with contributions from even a squirrel. However, it was Ram, not the squirrel, who built the bridge. Similarly, it was the Congress, not the TRS, that achieved the independence of Telangana.

I am confident that the people would rally behind Sonia Gandhi for her relentless efforts in securing Telangana’s independence despite facing strong opposition from the states of Seemandhra.
